Problem:
This project investigates the system-level factors that influence postpartum care following adverse maternal outcomes. The postpartum period, spanning approximately 42 days after childbirth, is a vulnerable phase in maternal health, with 65% of maternal deaths in the U.S. occurring during this time. Despite this, around 40-50% of patients do not receive follow-up care, highlighting significant gaps in postpartum care quality and access.
Our approach:
Our approach addresses postpartum care challenges through a multidimensional strategy. We conduct a systematic review of the literature to identify research gaps and analyze key factors, such as healthcare policies, mental health, and demographics, to uncover barriers and unmet needs. By focusing on both system-level and individual factors, we aim to create evidence-based interventions that could improve maternal health outcomes effectively.
